A beautiful warm summer evening, cold Italian Lemonade with Chambord on the deck, delicious marinated chicken shish-kabobs on the grill and fresh raspberry shortcakes with chambord infused whipped cream and No Mosquitoes! We celebrated Jim's birthday as we could between B&B guest check-outs and check-ins on a busy Friday in July. A mandatory respite swimming and relaxing at the lakeshore amidst the sunny 90 degree heat was perfect, although not long enough.
Jim passed on the finer points of BBQing on a charcoal grill to his enthusiastic son, who loves to eat and now to cook. A much loved marinade comes from an old La Leche League cookbook saved for that recipe only.
These are the great days of summer in Duluth as the gardens flourish (with a little help from the sprinkler, but not thanks to the grazing deer) and Lake Superior beckons boaters and swimmers alike. Speaking of wildlife, our sometime garbage raider bear made an appearance mid-day this week and made off with a bag of delicacies when we chased him off. I wonder at his diet as he did not look extremely healthy! This past week also brought some heavy winds which caused dangerous undertows and a few rescues on Park Point, so one must always respect the power of water. The recent June floods certainly an example of that.
That's all from the Ellery House and HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM!
